The Club 10

Be part of the club, improve your skills, boost your fitness, socialise and make new friends.

What is it?

It’s a time trial (or TT), it just means riding from A to B in the least amount of time. There are no other riders to worry about, no tactics to consider, no special equipment needed.

Am I fast enough?

Can you ride 10 miles on a road? Then the answer is 'yes'. The beauty of time trialling is that, essentially, you’re racing against yourself. Once you’ve ridden one event, you’ll have your own target to beat.

How do I start?

Just turn up with your bike, helmet, shoes and working front and back lights. We hold these in conjunction with Westmead 88 every Wednesday between April and August on two courses: one based around Lower Withington and the other near Chelford. You don’t need a racing licence as a member of the Wheelers. If you’re under 18, you must bring a consent form signed by a parent or guardian.

What do the codes mean?

Cycling Time Trials (CTT) have a code for all courses around the UK. Lower Withington course is JC36. Chelford course is J21.

When and where are our Club 10s?

We are continuing our collaboration with Westmead Team 88 to bring you 17 x 10 mile TT events on two different courses. Our club 10s are run at Lower Withington:

Lower Withington, Red Lion pub car park SK11 9EA

Sign on from 6.15pm (or arrive to offer help at 6.15pm)

We organise 8 club 10s, and a the lads n lasses 2 up team time trial.

5 marhalls 1 starter with watch (countdown 5,4,3,2,1 go) 1 timekeepers assistant (shout out numbers for Celia at finish) 1 push off (not essential)

What is the difference between a club 10 and open time trial?

For a club 10 just turn up on the night and sign on. An open time trail requires pre-entry via Cycling Time Trials website and the closing date is usually 2 weeks begore the event. Westmead’s 10 on 25 June 2025 is an open even and counts towards the club 10 points competition so make sure to don’t miss the entry deadline.

No helpers - no event

Please turn up to help at our events. If you are taking part in the series competition you must marshal one event to quality for a prize.

Scratch competition

Is the faster overall rider obtaining the most points.

Handicap competition

We run the handicap to give everyone who is new or returning to time trialling a chance to achieve a prize in recognition of age and ability. Riders are given a notional allowance (the handicap) which is subtracted from their actual finish time to get a handicap time. Therefore, if you are given a handicap of 10 minutes and you record 30 minutes for the 10 miles, your handicap finish time is 20 minutes (30 minutes less 10 minutes). If the following week your finishing time is 28 minutes, your new handicap for the following week will be 8 minutes and will reduce each time you get faster.

Prizes

There are prizes at the end of the season for the Club 10 series and prizes on the day for the Lads n Lasses event. Don’t forget this year we’ll be looking at recognising those who have helped or marshalled at our club events.

Club 10 series – based on your best 6 performances in the Scratch and Handicap competitions.

To qualify for a club 10 prize, riders need to have ridden 6 and helped out at 1 event. This equates to 6 out of 17 events promoted by Macclesfield Wheelers and Westmead Team 88. Volunteer points for riders are awarded once only for club 10 events promoted by Macclesfield Wheelers, irrespective of times helped out on the Lower Withington course.

Prizes are awarded based on your best 3 rides on each course (6 events) in the Scratch and Handicap competitions.
