Just A Ride
This weekly ride does what it says on the tin. It’s just a ride, nothing fancy, no training, no racing, no showing off, and because it’s dark for some of the year, no one’s going to notice if you haven’t cleaned your bike since the weekend.
We ride out of and around Macc for a couple of hours, a mix of flat and hilly. Average speed maybe 12 - 14 mph. On chilly winter nights we may press on a bit more at 15-16mph to stay warm but we’ll keep everyone together! Then there is the option for some or all of us go to the pub in Macc for a refreshing cordial and meet our friends - though no pressure if you need to get back to kids/dogs/work the next day!
We are a mutually supportive social group. The ride/group leaders have no specialist training or superpowers and accept no additional responsibility. We rely on everyone’s best endeavours to ride safely, support each other and never to ‘drop’ anyone. Each rider is responsible for their own wellbeing, basic spares etc. Always tell the group if you/someone behind you needs to ease-up or stop.
For winter nights, bright front and rear lights to enable you to see the road clearly, and mudguards to keep you and other riders dry are strongly recommended.

You can see some of the previous routes we’ve planned on our JAR Ride With GPS page.
They’re not necessarily the routes we rode. That’s because we’re always trying to find lanes we haven’t been down before and just occasionally we find that they’re really more of a boggy track and it’s best to turn round.
