Lark Ride to The Roaches

When we lost four riders to a late shout by the ride leader to turn right on a welcome descent shortly after mile 15, keeping on Park House Lane not carrying straight on through or round the ford, I thought how infrequently this happens on this ride.

Anyway it’s always a possibility in such circumstances as I am never going to be first down any hill. The Lost Boys nobly re-climbed the hill in case we were in trouble, by which time we were waiting for them at where they had emerged at the bottom, on Tollgate Road. I called the two riders for whom I had mobile numbers. One didn’t connect but I was reassured to be able to leave a voicemail on the other’s, telling him that we would meet at the café, which we did, only to be told that the voicemail had connected to his old mobile, now securely kept at home.

That’s why I have now made sure my mobile has the numbers of all those out on this or the Larkling Ride today. Is yours up to date (which it was for Rider X above, just wrong on my phone)? Ditto any medical information and emergency contact details? You can log in on the right of this page. Remember: ride leaders all have smart phone access to this database.

Anyway it was a brilliant day out: 11 on the Lark Ride, including Carl who we picked up en route. 53 miles park-café-home at an average of 12.7 mph (or faster if you look at my Garmin rather than my bike computer). And almond milk and dairy free spread at the Roaches Tea Rooms: what more could a vegan cyclist ask for?

How lucky we are to live near such beautiful countryside.

No ride would be complete without a post-cafe puncture.
