6@6 Easier Training Ride 13-August

Twelve members pre registered for the ride convieniently makeing two equal groups of six.

So rather than faster and steadier groups the plan was to have groups of roughly equal combined ability so that stronger rider’s could help a bit more in keeping with the ethos of the 10-2-7 ride. In theory that meant that both groups should have arrived back at Broken X at the same time but surprise surprise it didn’t work out quite like that and imagine our alarm when our group got back there just to get a message saying the other’s were already enjoying a drink outside the Flower Pot ☹️.

The first group; Christian S, Andy R, Mark W, Jill W and Francis M with Fred W did the 10-2-7 circuit in a anticlockwise direction and the second group led by Rich T; Mark B, Dave H, Vinney, Stockport Dave and Jim did it in the usual clockwise direction the thinking being to avoid a catch up / mix up. Our obvious excuse is that due to a peculiar weather system there was a headwind all the way round for us but we've got a better one. We had two stops as Andy’s fancy new saddle with a carbon clamp kept slipping down because he hadn’t put that special paste on the right parts. He said his knees hurt but didn’t notice any chaffing 😗.

We did set of at a brisk pace, doing two minute turns at the front, it wasn’t the most tidy team time trail and was definatley a bit ragged towards the end but everyone worked hard and we can all improve. Our group managed 17 to 19 mph average whereas the second group were a good 20mph. It was nice to have Francis making his debut on the easier training ride who rode strongly and thank-you to Rich for offering to lead the second group. Next weeks ride will be posted up for pre registration on Sunday.
