Wheelers Regain the Harold Kewish Trophy at the Wild Wales Challenge

What a brilliant weekend we had, based in Bala for the annual Wild Wales Challenge on Sunday.

The club winning the Harold Kewish trophy (after a gap of too many years)  for having the most finishers on the long route was just the icing on the cake.

We had twenty six member’s sign on with almost all completing the full eighty six miles and roughly ten thousand feet of climbing. Three made the decision at the lunchtime control to opt for the shorter version, still a tough ride in itself.

Personally I thought the highlights were the Trawsfynydd Mountain Road and although it was hard getting up, the road past the Cregennen Lakes, a bit of Wales I have never seen before. This year the final climb was the infamous Bwlch y Groes, about a mile and a half, no false flats, just relentless steep getting steeper, not one to skip up when you've done seventy five miles and eight thousand feet of climbing already 😤 and no shame on anyone who couldn’t quite manage to keep the cranks turning over.

The video starts climbing up and then cresting the spectacular mountain road about nine in the morning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cVbcDDqLT0
