Freewheeling and Snowdrops on the second Club Run in February

Saturdays Club Run incorporating the Freewheel competition for the Geoff Stevenson Trophy didn’t disappoint.

It was a close finish beyond Bearhust Lane with only a few feet between the best freewheeler’s a full mile down from the start by the Blacksmith’s.

In her first crack at a cycling event Rachel L was keen to get on with it, 2nd off after your’s truly and finishing well up the road from my not to impressive mark she was in the winning spot for a while until 2011 champion Brian R looked to have done it again. Rachel was safe in her 1st Female spot 🏆👏 well up the road from Caroline and Rachel G but Brian was overtaken by Simon who was in turn pipped by last man off Pete J who took the overall 🏆 .

With that decided and the competition over (I thought it was supposed to be just a bit of fun 😎) we carried on past Reedsmere and had a nice steady ride out to the Snowdrop Cafe via Goostrey. After the break it was straight up to Seven Sisters into a cold breeze, round the lanes avoiding the main road to Chelford Island, Congy Lane, Pexhill and back easily for 4pm quite a bit earlier than I anticipated but pretty clean roads with no punctures or mechanicals helps.

So the next scheduled club run is on the 11th March and probably back to the traditional 1pm start. Otherwise exactly the same (what seems to be) successful formula: Cafe stop mid ride, no more than a couple of hours each way and probably less, no target speed but on the easy side of steady and a social ride inclusive for all members.Watch out on the club calendar and FB for details a couple of days before.
