Wednesday Club Run Christmas Special 12 Dec 2018

Seven riders out on a sneaky, below the radar pre-Christmas Circuit of the Edge preview practice, the cunning and inspired choice of ride leader Dave. L to R Andy, Steve, Dave, Oliver, Mike and Moray, with most riders heading off as planned to The Vale in Bolly for Christmas lunch after ascending Woodbrook Road, which was probably the easiest that I have ever done it, owing to fewer riders to worry about and, what a joy, dry cobbles (the road surface not the collywobbles in my stomach that always give this beast of a climb its distinctive piquancy).

Moray and I completed the classic and esoteric ride, created by Barry Hyde, eschewing our previous invitation to join the others, instead opting for another 15-20 miles and a poor man’s Christmas lunch of baked beans sur la toast chez Flora a la Henbury, which was crammed but even so it would have made my day if they could have warmed the plates for us (well my plate at least, don’t know about Moray, maybe he likes a cold plate). I think I clocked 48 miles home to home at 13.5 mph but, hey, who cares, it’s Christmas. But watch out come February on the C of E main event, the Wed Club Runners have been practicing.
