Dodging the rain on the Easy Ride to Dunham

With heavy rain forecast I had received lots of apologies and sick notes for today's ride. Just six well equipped riders made it out, and were rewarded with relatively light rain.

Jim, Snowy, John and I set off from Wilmslow, whilst Simon R and Adele did the longer route from Broken Cross. We had a cross to tail wind on the way there, made it safely through one deep puddle near Rostherne, and did some ad hoc re-routing to avoid a section of road likely to have an even deeper puddle.

Dunham Barn was relatively quiet, so the Wilmslow group had the open sided barn area to ourselves. We were demolishing bacon barms and home made soup by the time Simon and Adele arrived. They opted for the warmth of indoors, so we left them to it, and set off into a gusty headwind and some more purposeful rain. Fortunately this stopped around about the same time that Jim punctured in Hale. Jim reckons that he angered the puncture gods by talking about how it would be horrible to get a puncture on a day like this. Jim has tubeless tyre ready rims on his bike, so it literally took 3 people to get the tyre back on.

The rest of the ride was uneventful, and Adele and Simon caught up with us at Wilmslow. Next week's ride will be the shorter version of the Circuit of the Edge, including a cafe stop in Alderley.
