Sunny Sunday easy ride to see the Tour

A combination of sunshine, the promise of a cooked breakfast and the Tour of Britain brought out a large contingent for today's easy ride.

Griff led 11 riders from Broken Cross up to Siddington, including two new riders (welcome!). Simon Ga, Snowy, Anwen, Troy and I met them there, and we split into two groups. I used a new strategy to try and get a more equal split, with everyone in a Macc Wheelers top asked to join my group. Miraculously that worked, so Griff and Phil Bridge led the first (incognito) group of 8, and I led a second (mostly orange) group of 8.

We rode at a good pace along Catchpenny lane, then via Bates mill to Marthall, and finally via the Frozen Mop to Mobberley. We had about 30 minutes in hand, so my group decided to have a quick pit stop at Mobberley ice cream farm to pick up takeaway coffee and ice cream, as well as use the facilities. Griff and Phil obviously had the same idea, as their group was already there, creating a huge queue in front of us.

Despite that we all made it up the road to Lady Lane ahead of the motorbikes, police cars, team cars and riders, who did slow down a little for the sharp left. Rachel G and John J met us there. Afterwards we headed off to Waugh Brow farm for our second cafe stop, Snowy said he would follow on but ended up doing several loops before finding us. John J worked his magic on Siobhan's flat tyre, lots of breakfasts and bacon baps were consumed and a number of riders experienced the wonder of the compost loo.

A few of us were lagging behind with our food, so Griff and Phil led most of the contingent back towards Macclesfield whilst we finished off. Martin and Simon R followed on, whilst Snowy and Anwen wanted to ride back via Wilmslow, so John and I rode back with them. A great day out, thanks to everyone who led and navigated.

Next week's Sunday easy ride will start from Wilmslow and will come back via Knutsford, where this is happening https://knutsfordgreatrace.com/
