LAST SATURDAYS CLUB RUN WAS MARCUS'S RIDE

” you can’t beat Long Hill, The Goyt, Wildboarclough, Gradbach, Flash, Axe Edge. A serene landscape that reminds you why you ride a bike” were his words.

So it was that a good thirty of us in several groups had to get over the Cat into Buxton for a start on a beautiful day.

The video is the group I was in climbing out of Buxton then heading for Errwood and the Goyt Valley, one of the nicest bits of the route. Then after climbing up to the Cat from Derbyshire Bridge it was fast and fun down Buxton Old Road and on through the clough.

There were stops to regroup, stops to fill water bottles plus one group had an intermediate cafe stop at Peak View (dish & spoon) tea rooms and why not it was definitely thirsty work. Most of the miles and climbing were done before we got to Flash Bar Stores where refueling was done; drinks, cakes, beans on toast, etc, etc consumed while chatting sat out in sunshine.

After the climb up  from Gradbach faster/ better climber’s were there first then a steadier group and others in ones and twos but a combination of all left Flash Bar together and went over Axe Edge the highest point of the ride then past the Cat & Fiddle again but a bit easier this time. It was speeding up (just a little bit 😎)  down to the Stanley, woo hoo, down through the forest to the Kings Head for more hydration it was full on just like Saturday club run’s used to be,  Marcus would definitely have approved.

Thanks everyone who turned out, for the ride, the company and the mutual support. If you couldn’t make it you can always do the route another time, as Marcus said it reminds you why you ride and bike and it certainly did that.
