This week I suggest a 27 mile part hilly, part flat route through Sutton, around Bosley reservoir, the Cloud, Timbersbrook, Congleton, Astbury and Marton.

The first half is pretty lumpy, with lots of short steep hills, but it’s well sheltered from the wind and there are some lovely little lanes. The route skirts around the south end of Congleton, returning via Marton Lanes and Gawsworth. Average speed 13-15 mph. The ride should take between 2 and 2 1/2 hours. You can return to Macclesfield straight along the A34 at the end if you’re getting close to the 9pm deadline if neccessary. Note that when turning right onto the A34 at Astbury, there is a good footpath on the northbound side of the road. Follow this for 200 yds, then cut left between the bollards onto Padgbury Lane.
