Steve Porter Memorial Ride

A ride in memory of Steve Porter, who sadly died whilst out riding his bike. The route will follow that of Steve’s last ride, and more details will be shared soon.

Please save the date, and more information about the ride will be shared shortly.

RIDE INFORMATION

The ride will start and finish from outside the Macclesfield Tennis Club gate which is within the Macclesfield Learning Zone campus. There is plenty of parking on the site if required.

Directions to start area. Enter the Macclesfield Learning Zone from Park Lane and keep left until opposite the main Macclesfield Academy building. There is a sign for the Macclesfield Tennis Club on the left opposite the school building. We will meet there to leave at 09:30

Depending on the number of riders we may need to set off in smaller groups.

The aim is for all the riders to regroup before we all pass Steve’s memorial post that will be positioned in the top part of Anker Lane in the section that is just after Buxton Old Road and the main Cat and Fiddle road. We will regroup just across the main road at the top of Ankers Knowl Lane. This is after 33 miles. At 13:00 we will proceed past Steve’s post and turn right on to Buxton Old Road and head down to the finish. Glynis and family will be at the Macclesfield Tennis Clubhouse from about 13:30. Beverages will be available at the clubhouse (the clubhouse will be open to us from 13:00 to 15:00).

Note: The route is hilly. The ride with GPS says 3600ft of climbing but it is more like 4000ft. Some of the lanes are in poor repair with potholes and gravel so be aware of potential hazards. No cafe stop planned so have energy bars etc or make your own arrangements to fit within the timescale.
