ANNOUNCEMENT - 01 MAY 2022

Steve Porter 1955 - 2022

7th May 1955 - 9th April 2022

Stephen Porter passed away on Saturday 9th April 2022, aged 66 years. He was a dearly loved husband, father and much cherished friend to many.

Words from Mark Booth, Club Chairman

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Steve Porter died whilst out riding on Saturday 9th April after having a medical incident on Old Buxton Road. He was initially riding with a friend but his friend had returned home with a back issue so, at the time of the incident, Steve was riding solo. He was found by a passing motorist whereby medical assistance was immediately sought but, unfortunately, he could not be resuscitated. No other cyclist, pedestrian or motor vehicles were involved in the incident.

I have ridden with Steve many times in the past, as many of you will have done. He was a very kind and gentle man, a strong cyclist and also an avid fan of Macclesfield Town F.C. He often joined rides but peeled off half way to return to Macclesfield to support his team.

I have spoken to Steve's wife, Glynis, and she would be welcoming to any of Steve's fellow riders if they would like to attend his funeral which will be held at Macclesfield Crematorium on Tue 3rd May at 11:30am.

Donations

Steve’s wife, Glynis, has requested that any donations be made to the British Heart Foundation. A link to their website can be found below.

Glynis would like to thank all of the Macclesfield Wheelers who have sent flowers and cards, and donations to the BHF.

Tributes

Steve - an appreciation from Moray

Steve was a great friend, a great rider and always good company with his dry sense of humour. During rides we did he often informed me that the climb coming up was to be done in the "Big Ring". Of course it never was for me. He never minded waiting for the rest of us at the top of the climbs.

We miss you Steve.
