User: NickC
Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2008 22:45:31
Post text: Sorry to hear this Dave - we missed you at the legbreaker. Every time I heard a bike approaching at speed i expected to see a blur of orange as you flew past shouting something like 'come on lad, keep up, don't put the wheelers to shame!' (just like you did on the polka dot, when i seem to remember hanging onto you wheel up the cat and fiddles for at least 2.5 minutes).

hope you get back to good elf soon.

I'll write something for the press report.

I had been looking forward to a comprehensive resume of the 'Legbreaker' to embellish the next issue of Fools' Nook. Perhaps someone other than Dave is able to provide such?

Let's hope this is the end of our clubmembers' bad accidents for 2008!

Glad to hear you're OK(ish). I second Jim's suggestion of Bikeline having made use of their services myself in the past. May I suggest a combination of Codeine, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen to numb the pain - the more codeine the better !

More importantly, how's the bike ?

Although not quite as horrific as the ease in which I routinely get dropped) hope it all gets sorted out nice and quickly and you are back on the bike soon.

You tell your paps that we'll all proud of him as well. Get him to tell us about more of his results and you'll have even more pictures of him in the Express

User: thetrotter
Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2008 21:06:05
Post text: Report submitted to the Express and Community News. Thanks to my dedicated pack of newshounds who this week comprised Carole Sherrin, John Bethall, Jaime Hyde and Mick O'Connor:

" The Wheelers' road men were active last week with the pick of the results being Jaime Hyde’s magnificent silver medal in the TLI National Road Race Championships. Hyde confirmed his position as one the region’s top riders by getting into a seven man break on the second of the five 10 mile laps of a testing course near Denbigh. The break stayed away for 40 miles to give Hyde second place in his age category. Ralph Walker, Mark Bethall, Toni Mion and John Baguley were the other Wheelers to ride and all finished in the bunch. Earlier in the week Bethell had taken 4th place final in the final round of the Oulton Park Road Race series with John Baguley and Tony Mion both finishing in the bunch

Veteran road racer Mick O' Connor traveled to Blackpool on Sunday to ride the Elswick road race which is always dominated by the strong winds of the Fylde Coast. O' Connor was active throughout the race. He instigated the first break along with three others on the first lap only to be brought back two laps later. The irrepressible O’Connor then attacked again with nine other riders to make the race winning break and crossed the line to take third in his age category.

The ladies also had a good weekend with Claire Logan and Carole Sherrin making their debuts over 50 miles in the Manchester and District Ladies CA time trial on Saturday. Logan finished 3rd in 2.27.52 and Sherrin 5th in 2.33.46 to take the Shield for the fastest team Steve Jackson and Robert Foster were the two finishers in the men’s event with times of 2.06.25 and 2.12.24 respectively.

Steve Burke won the latest round of the Club 10 mile championship on Wednesday evening. His time of 22.00 was 56 seconds faster than second place Simon Galgut who nevertheless achieved his highest ever placing in the competition. Kevin Walford was third in 23.45 followed by Warren Jackson 24.29 and Lewis Burke 24.40. Natalie Abbot was the fastest lady in 27.55."

Well done to Jaime for adding another bit of national silverware to the Wheelers' cupboard and to Claire and Carole for attempting what many others would regard as the frankly mad activity of making their 50 mile debuts on J4/16 in a howling gale. If anyone wants to submit a piece on the Legbreaker I'll include it mext week.

For my part I'm only allowed out with a paper bag over my head to avoid frightening children and old ladies (and if anyone's near Jodrell Bank and finds some some teeth........)
