The presses are about to roll.......

Postby thetrotter » Sun Mar 25, 2012 5:49 pm

This week's press report has been lovingly crafted and is just awaiting somebody telling me the results of the Altrincham Raven's 25 yesterday. Come on, don't be shy. Your aged reporter needs his beauty sleep so before 2000 hrs would be appreciated.

Thanks to Steve, Chris, Colin and John for their updates. Here's the result:

"Champion time trialist Steve Burke is also pretty useful at road racing. He was in action on both days over the weekend. On Saturday he took part in the fourth event of the TLI Tour of the Circuits held at Rhyl Marsh Tracks. This course is as flat as the proverbial pancake and the constant bends mean that wind doesn’t have much impact so races are run off at the high tempo that suits Burke’s style. Although Steve was out on his own for four laps, he was eventually brought back and came fourth in the resultant bunch sprint. On Sunday he rode a 40 mile event on a tough course at Clitheroe. Once again the pace was high from the start with constant attacks. Steve broke away from the bunch with four laps to go and was joined by another rider who, despite saying that he was too tired to help, managed to summon up sufficient strength to outsprint Steve at the finish.

Road race Champion Chris Quin has also been in action over the last few weeks. This Sunday he rode the Merseyside Wheelers road race at Pimbo. The racing was aggressive from the start and Quin got into a few early breaks. Eventually a break of six got away just before halfway point and built a 50 sec lead. As often happens, as the finish approached the riders in the break started to pay more attention to each other than to the chasing pack and all but three were swallowed up as the bunch sprinted for the line. Quin placed fourth in the sprint to give him seventh place overall. The previous weekend, Quin had also secured a placing when he rode the the Saighton circuit near Chester with Ant Allen. Once again a breakaway established a lead of about 50 seconds. With two laps to go Allen almost got across to the break but was pulled back. The break was caught just 200 metres from the line and Quin took an excellent sixth place. Allen paid for his earlier efforts and came in at the back of the bunch.

Colin Lynch has made overall victory in the Rudy Project Time Trial series one of his major goals for this year and his challenge got off to a flying start when he took the first round of the series held at Litchborough near Towcester representing the Wheelers in his World Champion's colours.

The good weather on Sunday attracted nearly 30 riders for the “Three Loops” ride. In marked contrast to previous years, twelve riders in all went for the full 130 mile option: Gordon Low, Dave Werrell, Alex Clarke-Williams, Chris Cottom, Matt Duck, John Jackson. Robert Foster, Matt Lawton, Rick Draper, Jeremy Smith, Steve Jackson, and Brian Evans."

Off to bed now with hot water bottle and woollen hat.

Probably because his brake pads were no longer binding on his carbon rims  First time under the hour is a major achievement (particularly on J2/9) and I will include it next week.

Mike from the Express has emailed to say that he had to lose a page this week, hence no report. He has promised to use the material next week.
