Press Report 10 October

Results now a little thin on the ground so will move to fortnightly reports provided that you keep sending in the results - thanks, Roger, John and Colin as well as the eagle eyed John B:

"Former Wheelers' road race champion Ant Allan has come into excellent form in the second half of the season, securing two fourth place finishes on consecutive weekends, lifting him to second place overall in the regional rankings. Allan generally secures his best results on hilly circuits and this was shown in the Derby Mercury event held at Hanbury, Staffordshire over 6 laps of a rolling course – making 71 miles in total – with a very tough uphill finish. Allan followed this up with fourth place in the shorter (50 miles) Weaver Valley event which also included a steep climb on each lap.

The first event of the Manchester Regional Track League winter season saw John Jackson take third place in the 16 lap scratch race having chased hard to bring back a four man break. Roger Wrenn took second place in the 20 lap scratch race which saw Chris Higgs continue her build up for the World Masters Track championship in Portugal in two weeks time with seventh place. This completed a good week for Wrenn who had taken a top twenty position and the prize for fastest rider over 50 years old in the Nottingham Clarion 25 at Tuxford with 59.17.

Colin Lynch rounded off a year that has seen him represent Ireland at international level by being crowned champion of the British National Disability Circuit Race Series after finishing fifth last year. Points are awarded over the year for a series of races throughout the UK, including the National Championship Road Race. Although Lynch didn’t win any of the individual races, his consistency throughout the events (often placing second) gave him the overall win. Steve Jackson rounded off his season by finishing 14th in the Manchester and District Time Trial Association points series."
